SHEARING SKILLS!

Shearing training, provided through British Wool Marketing Training Ltd., is now an established and growing area of Wool Board activity.

With the shearing season fast approaching, dates and venues for courses are being confirmed daily. We have on offer Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold Seals, which are available to trainees, depending on their ability. Courses are held locally if possible and held over 2 or 3 days throughout the shearing season. Please register your interest as soon as possible.

RELATED SKILLS!

Gear Courses
Find out about the various combs available, the uses they have and how to make a comb shear the maximum amount of sheep possible. Information about machines, droppers and handpieces will all be covered extensively by our top class registered Shearing Instructors.

Sharpening/Grinding Courses
Get the ultimate edge on your gear. Learn from the professionals the best methods to care for, and sharpen, your combs and cutters to ensure the optimum performance from your equipment and improve your technique.

Crutching Courses
This is the ideal course for a complete beginner to get the idea of handling sheep and equipment before attending a Blue Seal shearing course. Learn the different methods of crutching sheep, preparing lambs for abattoirs in line with current legislation and preparing ewes for lambing.

All the above related courses are one-day courses and again will, where possible, be arranged to suit local needs.

Click on your area for contact and all course details.

A British Wool training video is available to assist beginners and those wishing to perfect their basic skills. First Steps in Shearing is aimed to complement preliminary training courses and be a reference for trainees. Information covered includes preparation of the shearing area, gear and safety procedures, as well as a detailed 'blow by blow' shearing demonstration.
